November 2001 Charts

The end of November and there was no stopping Age of Empires 2 Gold Edition. It's November sales outstripped everything in sight! In fact they were the biggest pre-sales of a single Mac game since 1997. Recent figures revealed to us, show that more than one in every two copies being ordered is coming through MacGold Direct! Thank you everyone for making us and keeping us the UK's number one Mac games supplier :-)
Even the big two October releases, Baldurs Gate 2 Shadows of Amn and Alien vs Predator can make no impression of the sales of the runaway leader. Looks like we have another Chart Megahit on our hands, just like the The Sims, which was number one in nearly every monthly MacGold chart for a year after its release (barring stock shortages caused by the publisher/distributor).
The release of Champ Manager Season 01/02, has seen it move quickly into second place. It's PC sales have made it the fastest selling game in history! And the improvements to the gameplay and the inclusion of a game editor should ensure a Xmas top three finish for the game.
Surprisingly, the excellent Tropico has slipped down to number seven, being beaten in sales even by the Encyclopaedia Britannica 2002 DVD.
Worthy performances deserving a mention are those of the StarCraft and Brood Wars Bundle, and the realistic mediaeval real-time strategy game Knights & Merchants.
Star Trek Voyager Elite Force has re-entered the charts after a quiet few months, its sales no doubt bouyed by the imminent release of the Expansion Pack.
Just below the Top Twenty are new releases Giants Citizen Kabuto and Alien Nations. The sales of both are picking up despite no magazine reviews yet. This is the first chart for a while without one of the Unreal Tournament titles being in the Top Twenty, currently placed at number 24.
Age of Empires has made a late entry into the chart as many people take up MacGold's cut-price offer when buying Age of Empires 2 Gold Edition .

The sequel to Age of Empires. Includes the Conquerors Expansion pack which was sold separately on the PC. Classic real-time strategy game. Features medieaval civilizations, troops, technology and warfare. Campaigns and random scenario generator. Different styles of games, including against-the-clock. Excellent graphics. Will keep you engrossed for hundreds of hours. Brilliant and a bargain.

The very latest incarnation of the top soccer management game. Updated and expanded database. Includes database editor. Improved game engine, computer AI and commenttary.Improvements include, attribute masking mode, time to be added at the end of the game is now displayed on screen, the addition of a game diary where you can make notes about players and set reminders. So when you are scouting there is no need for pencil and paper, plus you can set reminders about contract renewals etc. Loads more.
3, Aliens vs Predator Gold Edition
Chase, hide or advance in over 40 levels of the most nightmarish, chillingly detailed futuristic environment your mind could ever imagine. Now the three most ferocious species in the galaxy are pitted against one another in a battle for the ultimate prize - survival!

7, Tropico
Graphically stunning strategy game flavoured with Latin American political intrigue. Uses the excellent Railroad Tycoon II, 3rd person, 45 degree rotated perspective landscape engine. With so many game options, the replayability value is tremendous; no two games will be alike. Over 85 unique structures. Keep the populace, the capitalists, the church, the miltary, the Americans and the Russians happy... oh and stay alive!
8, The Sims - Livin Large
This expansion will double your gameplay with new objects, furniture, architecture, custom skins, characters and new jobs. Makes The Sims a much bigger, better game. Far more challenging than just the original game. IMG review score 9/10
9, The Sims - House Party

10, Sheep
Sheep are alien explorers. But they forgot their mission and now its time to go home. Cute, addictive game with the aim of getting those sheep onto an alien spacecraft, avoiding a multitude of hazards (like shark infested ice cream) and overcoming their tendency to wander off in all directions. Avoid the evil Hench-Cows of Mr Pear! 28 levels and 4 breeds of incredibly stupid sheep present further challenges! Family game.
11, American McGee's Alice
Utterly wicked third person, 3D action adventure, based on enhanced Quake 3 engine. Alice answers a distress call but finds Wonderland in a befouled chaos! Devious puzzles and mazes.
12, Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2

13, Myst 3 Exile
