August 2002 Mac Charts
The Sims Vacation has dominated this month's charts because of the proximity of it's release. Originally due at the end of August (in fact it was released on the 4th September in the UK), this combined with our exclusive discounted offer to MacGold Bulletin subscribers ensured its place at the top of the charts! Otherwise, the same relatively new games are packed into the top places. However, this month, everyone's perennial favourite, The Sims, has managed to force it's way into sixth place by dislodging Stronghold. Max Payne has slipped slightly too.
Of this month's new releases only Kick Off 2002 and Fallout have made it into the Top 20. Fallout is a Mac OS X compatible version of the game and it's 9.5/10 review score has obviously helped sales. The others, such as Heretic 2, Incoming, Jinni Zeala Pinball and a new Zoombini's game (Zoombinis Mountain Rescue), haven't yet made an impact. But that isn't too surprising given the high quality of some many games already available for the Macintosh.
On the apps chart, the new Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar is still breaking all records and it is easily the top selling Mac application, just as it was last month. It was officially released on 24th August 2002.
What will be the number one in September? The Sims Vacation will take some beating but the smart money is on Soldier of Fortune 2 Double Helix. However, if Bold Games get their act together and release Links Championship Edition we think the wider appeal of that game will see it sweep to success in the MacGold Top 20 games chart.
