Build and manage your own theme park from the ground up.
The original Theme Park is a classic on the Macintosh; one of the best non-violent strategy titles to ever appear. But that was five years ago and this is now: Theme Park World - it's bigger, badder and more exciting.
What could be more fun than building and running your own theme park? (Well, yes, riding the rides - but you get to do that too! After all, someone has to test those stomach churning rides don't they?) Choose bloodcurdling five-loop roller coasters or if you're a water babe, how about a Log Flume?
Of course, you'll also need to be able to run the theme park as well as design it. We need money to keep it going! You can adjust the price, quality and ingredients of the goods sold in your shops. Do you think your guests would like a little salt with their fries? Too much salt gets crowds thirsty. Too much sugar and the kids get twitchy. So you have to monitor your visitors mood and enjoyment, or they'll leave! As you can see, it's your job to manage every nuance of the park. But don't worry if it sounds a little difficult there's in-game advice available when you need it. In fact this Advisor will sometimes set you targets which if you meet the challenge will result in a cash prize for you!
To help you monitor the moods of your visitors you can either click on an individual visitor and the popup screen will give you important individual information. Or you can glance at the mood bubbles that appear above the heads of your visitors from time to time. These will tell you if the visitors are happy, confused, unhappy, bored, angry, hungry, thirsty, fed up of queuing, needing a toilet, unimpressed with the cleanliness of your park, sick as parrots or even frightened, (what have YOU done to them?)
To keep the challenges coming, when you hit certain game targets you'll be awarded Golden Tickets and Golden Keys. These enable you to access previously unseen theme parks. You'll get Golden Tickets for all kinds of activity so you'll have to keep busy and striving for excellence in all areas of the game. In return for which you'll get practical prizes.
- Plan and place rides, shops, side-shows and a host of other features, including guards, toilets, security cameras, trees and bushes, fountains and even the litter bins!
- Check out your park from a realistic 1st person view point, visit it just like your customers will. Explore fantastic rides, shops, and side-shows from the visitor's perspectives.
- Of course you can ride your own rides!
- Hire and fire your front-line staff! Are you up to the job? Are you a Cuddly Ken or a Ken Bates?
- Research and invent new and better attractions for your theme park with the boffins
- Pick from four entirely different themes: Space Zone, Lost Kingdom, Land of Wonders and Halloween.
- Design your own rides using a simple and intuitive user interface. A helpful adviser will give you instant feedback to help you create a successful theme park. Tweak the performance of your rides and shops.
- When you are happy with your theme park you can send snapshot photos as a postcard to your friends anywhere in the world.
- You can even publish your park online and visit other people's parks, all over the world!
If you're looking for a suitable family simulation game as an alternative to The Sims or Sim City 3000 then look no farther than Theme Park World. It's challenging yet fun, the graphics are great to look at and the game is non-violent, (though your visitors can projectile vomit!). What more could you ask?
Feral have made available a patch for the game that makes it Carbonised for Mac OS X (which means it now plays natively under Mac OS X) and gives it support for nVidia cards. There is a minor bug fix as well. To download the patch now just click here
