Majesty is a game published by MacPlay for the Apple Macintosh.
So now you're a king...
In this fantasy real-time strategy game you, as sovereign of a fledgling kingdom, must steer it towards rise or ruin. You must recruit the right heroes for the jobs that you need done. But you can't expect Wizards to explore the realm, can you? And you don't expect Rangers to defeat the Dragon on their own. A wise leader knows what's best for the kingdom and can set the proper rewards to motivate reluctant heroes to do his bidding.
Your Quest Begins
There are many ways for you to enjoy Majesty. The game has 19 pre-scripted quests of varying difficulty. Each quest can be played independently of the others. If you want to jump right in with an advanced quest, you're free to try it (you'll probably want to start with something a bit easier - don't say we didn't warn you). You can also build your own unique quests using Freestyle mode. Make a few selections and you've got a brand-new quest of your own creation. Want to add a human ally or opponent? You can play with up to four other Mac users on your LAN or over the Internet!
Each time you start a quest the map is created for you on the spot ensuring that every game is unique. Quests can be played over and over. You can learn different strategies from previous attempts but you can never be sure how they'll work THIS time.
Majesty stands out from the crowd because it takes familiar strategy game elements and blends them into a unique style.
You want subjects and heroes to complete your quests, so you begin the familiar scenario of creating different types of buildings to generate them. And sure enough, the screen will soon be full of guards, wizards, peasants, rangers and gnomes doing er.. their own stuff! They'll be exploring, fighting, stealing, resting, trading in the market, researching new armour and weapons or going to the inn for a swift half! Unfortunately, for your plans, they will seem oblivious to what you want them to do!! So much for being an absolute ruler and master of all you survey!
These awkward denizens of Arcadia require gold to be persuaded from their daily hum drum existence of going to the market , stealing, battling to the death the odd monster that tries to burn down their trading post, etc. If you want them to undertake a quest to attack an old ruin full of monsters just because YOU need some silly scroll that happens to be there then you are going to need a little financial persuasion. So you need to set a reward for doing this task. And don't be mean. You'll see your heroes wander up to the location and simply turn around and walk away if they think the reward is too little for the dangers involved. Don't worry too much, you can always set another tax collector on his rounds, or go to the Rogues Guild and extort another barrow full of gold from them.
Successful completion of these tasks are the key to the winning of each Quest. But there is plenty to keep you occupied during the game as well. Buildings, such as, Inns, Blacksmiths, Ranger Camps, Gnome Hovels, Temples and Guard Towers need to be created, upgraded, repaired and replaced. New skills and discoveries need to be researched. There are always plenty of monsters roaming around that need to be slain before they start chewing on your buildings!
Unusually, the designers have also given you commands to type that will generate more monsters if you think your Rangers and Wizards are just not busy enough. Two of them are, 'Night of the Living Dead' and 'Prepare to Die'. If you are foolish enough to type those commands I'll leave the resulting slaughter to your imagination.
