|
This new 'Game of the Year' edition is essentially the original Unreal Tournament plus a load of add-ons which, until now, you had to find and download from the Internet.
What are the additions?
Two new game modes:
* Fight to the death gladiator style in Rocket Arena; no extra weapons, no power-ups. No ammo pickups, no armour boosts... just you and your opponent locked in battle to the very end.
* You can now slice and dice your way through maps in Chaos mode, using a razor sharp gothic sword, a long range crossbow and smiley-faced mines that giggle and taunt as they chase your enemies.
Other extras include:
* more than 60 new adrenaline-pumping maps, all rendered in stunning realistic 3D detail... no 3D accelerator required. Plus, scores of 'relics' (unique power-ups), wild new skins and much more
Storyline
The Unreal Tournament was founded in the 23rd century by the Liandri Mining Corporation to quell the violent urges of their deep space miners. The year is now 2341, and because of the profitability of the Tournament a professional league has been formed, and now you can compete for the Championship.
The Game
Prove your skill in the arenas of the future, leading your team of computer-controlled 'bots' to victory in the single-player Grand Tournament, or compete with the best in multiplayer games via LAN or the Internet. Don't worry there is a practice mode so you can develop your skills outside the arena.
While Unreal Tournament offers the finest in classic Deathmatch play, right out of the box you can also compete in Team Deathmatch or Capture the Flag. Control strategic points on the map to rack up your score in Domination, or test your skills in Assault, as one team defends its base from the other. Each game type comes with its own special maps and rules, for never-ending variety and challenge. Add gameplay mutators such as Jump Match or InstaGib, and Unreal Tournament takes on a whole new face. These mutators allow you, for example, to limit both sides to use only sniper rifles or chainsaws, or to alter the size and shape of yourself or the enemy to make hitting them more difficult.
To assist you in winning the Tournament you have a huge arsenal of weapons including updated versions of many of the weapons first seen in Unreal. Descriptions of many can be found in our hints and tips section. But a particular favourite is the sniper rifle with a zoomable 8x scope. You'll also get the Enforcer (get a pair of them and you'll feel like Wyatt Earp when they start blazin'), then there is The Redeemer, think of it as a personal cruise missile launcher (don't get too close!), there's ten weapons in total so you won't get bored, especially as each also has an alternative fire mode. You will find that many weapons have ammo level readouts on them too! No more running out of ammo in the middle of a firefight - if you have time to look at the readout that is!
The Progam
In single player mode you can customise yourself and your bot team using one of 300 possible combinations of skins, models and skill levels.
The maps have high res textures and look wonderful. UTGOY supports the latest 3D accelerators using RAVE and Glide(3Dfx) but it also features high performance software rendering that does NOT require a 3D accelerator card.
Detailed game statistics can be viewed in your web browser after each match, whether single or multiplayer. You can see how you did against individual opponents, find your most efficient weapon, check category leaders, pickups that you utilised, and much more. Want to see how you rank in the world? The original Unreal Tournament, which does not include the extras is still available at a much lower price.
