On a tiny banana-republic in an unchartered corner of the Caribbean, your destiny awaits as newly installed Dictator. Welcome to Tropico. You must create progress in a country mired in poverty, civil unrest and political infighting. After all, how else will you skim enough to build your personal fortune in those offshore accounts so beloved by Dictators?
Tropico provides you with over 85 unique structures, from hotels and spas to stimulate the tourist trade, to rum distilleries and cigar factories to keep the trade deficit in check. You can build football stadia and loads more. You'll have to keep your quest for personal wealth under control to keep the citizens content with their daily lives. Fail to make them happy and they'll storm your palace grounds and hang you out to dry with the tobacco leaves. You can tell if they are happy because you can click on individual Tropicans and see all the details of their lives, their needs and their desires. (as in Caesar III). You'll have to keep the military happy as well, after all they will suppress rebellions and fix elections... maybe! Then there is the small job of keeping the Americans, The Russians, the capitalists, the church, the tourists and the communists happy as well!
This is a graphically stunning building game flavoured with the spice of Latin American political intrigue. Tropico looks good because it is rendered using the excellent Railroad Tycoon II, third person, 45 degree rotated perspective landscape engine. With so many game options, the replayability value is tremendous; no two games will be alike. There are many options before you even start the game, and there are many different ways to achieve success. All strategy games should be this good!
