Championship Manager 01/02 ** Description |
 |
Also available as part of The Big Red Box compilation on Mac.
Has updated personnel database. The game also includes the Mac game editor on the CDROM. This is a big improvement on 00/01 where it didn't turn up until the editing job was so big that few of us bothered to do it.
There are no new leagues included over the ones included in the 00/01 version, but 26 is about enough for anyone! The screenshots indicate some of the more important gameplay changes, such as added time is now displayed during the game. Perhaps the most useful change is the addition of a game diary. Here you can make notes about a player and set a reminder. So when you are scouting gone is the need for pencil and paper, plus you can set reminders about contract renewals etc.
Here's a list of the key features for Season 01/02:
- An improved data editor is on the game CDROM this time; it allows you to modify the stats used in the game. Keep the managers and the teams' squads up to date. Of course you can use it to cheat or even add you and your friends into the game!
- The detailed profiles and histories has now grown to over 100,000 players, managers, and coaches!
- A full international simulation featuring all the major tournaments plus B-team and U-21 management opportunities is now included. So you'll get a crack at the World Cup before Sven!.
- Attribute masking mode - this is a new concept. For complete realism, you can now play the game with stats of new and unknown players hidden, with only players that a manager would realistically know about being shown. Scouting these players will reveal their full stats.
- Enhanced media involvement, more messages, feedback and variety from the local and national press than ever before. Plus you can now read and reply to media stories about the clubs and players and events in the game. Although, unlike a certain Scottish club chairman, you cannot give a TV reporter a poke in the eye!
Improvements and new features:
- The match engine, commentary and computer manager intelligence have all undergone big improvements.
- Full implementation of the new EU regulated transfer system.(So now the Brussels bureaucrats can also interfere with your computer games playing!)
- All competitions, awards, transfer and disciplinary rules updated; the game is now based on the 2001/02 season.
- Enhanced scouting feature gives the manager the ability to get in depth analysis on your opposition including key players and team tactics throughout the season.
- There is now the ability for managers to make notes on players in the game. This is an understated but major improvement to the CM game. Because of the length of time taken to play a game, over many evenings, it is essential to have a system of note taking integral to the game. Even better, you can set reminders for yourself for important things like contract renewals or if you are really engrossed, 'feed the children' or 'go to bed' :)
- Managers now have the chance to approach the governing bodies to appeal against bans imposed on their players. (And presumably get an increased ban as a reward for their efforts?)
- Managers can now choose to send players away for surgery to repair recurring injuries. (Can we send Luke Chadwick for a face-lift?)
- The manager can now issue the board ultimatums - and vice versa! (Oh that's going to be fun, can you imagine managing Chelsea or Villa and issuing Ken Bates or Doug Ellis an ultimatum?)
- Updated player and team photos. (As if you can't remember what the lazy over-paid swines look like!)
As far as we know the only feature missing to prevent 01/02 being the world's most realistic game is that the computer players don't threaten to go on strike. However, the next time your Mac crashes just pretend it's a strike and you're there! Realism!
